Terrence Regis, Public Service Association (PSA) Staff representative for the workers of the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIB), has called on the Minister of Labour to return the negotiations between the NIB and the union to the bilateral process. The negotiations were referred to the Ministry of Labour by the NIB.

Regis told Comrade Rae Samuel of the National Workers Union that all avenues to arriving at a settlement have not been exhausted and that the negotiations should not have been referred as a trade dispute.

The knowledgeable trade union veteran also pointed out that should the negotiations not be returned to the bilateral process, the workers for the first time would have to decide whether to initiate strike action in pursuit of securing a proper collective agreement.
