The Transport and Industrial Workers Union (TIWU) recently settled negotiations with the National Maintenance Training and Security Company (MTS) for the contract period 2008-2011. The settlement included a wage increase of 9% for higher paid workers and 11% for lower paid workers.

This settlement was achieved in the face of the government’s vicious attempt to impose a wage cap on public sector and state enterprise workers and workers had to
intervene from time to time to force management to shift positions.

Comrade Rae Samuel, Executive Officer of the National Workers Union interviewed Comrade Roland Sutherland, President of TIWU on issues surrounding the settlement.
