NWU PRESENTS WORKERS SELF DEFENCE PROGRAMME AT COSSABO

The National Workers’’ Union (NWU) was represented at the Conference of Shop Stewards and Branch Officers (COSSABO) held at OWTU Headquarters in San Fernando on April 18th and distributed a bulletin calling for the adoption of a workers self defence programme. The COSSABO was called to discuss A Workers’ Agenda. NWU’s programme was a contribution toward the development of that agenda.

he bulletin also explained the role of the COSSABO and emphasised its deeply democratic nature. The bulletin was timely because all kinds of topics were put before the COSSABO by the head table, including the formation of the Movement for Social Justice and its foray into electoral politics, which move was touted as “labour” making a political intervention. T

While the Workers Agenda was adopted by the COSSABO, there was so much unease about the head table’s attempt to railroad support for the MSJ that no motion or resolution was eventually placed before the COSSABO seeking formal support for the manoeuvres of the MSJ.
