NWU CONGRATULATES NEW PSA EXECUTIVE

General Secretary of the National Workers' Union (NWU) Comrade Dave Smith wrote the following letter to Comrade Watson Duke, new President of the Public Services Association:

Dear Comrade Duke

Watson Duke
new PSA President

On behalf of the National Executive Committee of the National Workers Union, I would like to extend our congratulations on your team's overwhelming victory in the recent elections in the Public Services Association.

In reality you have now completed the easiest part of your task – the hard work now begins.

I am sure that, initially, you will be concentrating on a number of pressing matters facing the PSA, but the trade union movement is facing some serious issues at the moment and hopefully your new Executive will be in a position to positively pursue questions like trade union unity.

The NWU did write to all trade unions earlier this year urging the convening of a national conference of shop stewards and branch officers (COSSABO) through which discussion could take place on developing a minimum programme around which the movement can unite and campaign. In case you have not seen this letter, I am enclosing a copy for your information and consideration.
