Lyle Townsend aka Chick, aka Charley, former General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) died on April 27th 2012. Comrade Townsend was a significant figure in the history of the trade union movement and broke the back of right wing reaction in the CWU by defeating Carl Tull in the 1970's . Tull was an agent of the PNM and some say of the CIA. Townsend led the CWU out of the infamy of being called a party group of the PNM to being one of the more militant unions in the country.
