GRENADA WORKERS STRIKE AGAINST ANSA MACAL

posted 13 Dec 2011, 17:23 by Gerry Kangalee
Class struggle is heating up in the region. On the morning of December 13th, the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) called a strike at Grenada Breweries, a subsidiary of the ANSA MCAL group of T&T. The action was taken to pressure management into settling a new Collective Labour Agreement.

Union officials addressed 120 workers outside the gates of the brewery and acc
used the company of dragging its feet over wage increases and other benefits.

Union President Senator Chester Humphrey called for more miliitant action by the working class in the face of the deep crisis of international capital which has seen rising unemployment and high food prices.

Humphrey also warned that failure of LIAT's management to reinstate captain Michael Blackburn, head of the pilots union, will lead to further disruption of LIAT's services.
