On the morning of Friday 16th March 2012 the Communication Workers Union (CWU) mobilised retirees of
Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) for a demonstration at the Ministry of Public Utilities on Elizabeth Street in Port of Spain in protest against TSTT's attack on retirees' entitlements under the TSTT medical plan.(see video here).
A petition was delivered  to the Minister of Public Utiities by a delegation led by CWU President Joseph Remy and including Secretary General John Julien calling for ministerial intervention to block TSTT from forcing retirees to pay up to $8,000 before they can make claims under the plan.
CWU Secretary General John Julien spoke to Rae Samuel, executive officer of the National Workers Union about the issue (see video here) as did  a retiree who participated in the demonstration (see video here).
