On Tuesday 25th March 2014, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba, Compañero Guillermo Vázquez Moreno, paid a courtesy call on the National Workers Union’s (NWU) office in Barataria and held discussions with some members of the NWU’s executive including President Frank Sears, General Secretary, Dave Smith, National Organiser, Carla Walcott, Deputy President, Ceil Paul and executive members Rae Samuel and Gerry Kangalee The discussions revolved around the strengthening of the relationship between the NWU and the Cuban Trade Union Federation (CTC). Other areas of discussion involved sporting and cultural ties between T&T and Cuba and the encouragement of tourism between the two countries. The ambassador thanked the union for supporting the struggle of the Cuban Five (now three) and for condemning the illegal and inhumane blockade of Cuba by the United States |
