BIGWU ON REPUBLIC BANK NEGOTIATIONS

posted 5 Jun 2012, 11:50 by Gerry Kangalee
Mario Als, Deputy President of the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union spoke to Rae Samuel of the National Workers Union about the negotiations between BIGWU and Republic Bank, the biggest bank in Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of approximately 2,500 workers.

The negotiations have been particularly contentious more reminiscent of the great struggles between the then Bank Employees Union and the Bank in the nineteen eighties than recent negotiations.

Comrade Als, a veteran of the trade union movement is very thorough in his analysis of the factors surrounding the negotiations and has re-emphasised BIGWU's committment to the principles of equity and justice for its members and all working people.
