2nd NATIONAL COSSABO

RESOLUTION

 

SUPPORTING THE ADVANCEMENT AND ACHIEVEMENT OF THE “WORKERS’ AGENDA”

 

 

Whereas Leaders of the labour movement continue to work towards advancing and achieving the WORKERS’ AGENDA adopted by over 500 Shop Steward and Branch Officers from 15 Trade Unions at a National COSSABO held on the 18 April, 2010 and that today 19 Trade Unions have signed unto the WORKERS’ AGENDA.

 

And Whereas On 24 May, 2010 the new People’s Partnership Government, which included the workers’ based Party- Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) was elected into office with a commitment to the Worker’s Agenda.

 

And Whereas Labour’s intervention on April 18th and the adoption of the Workers’ Agenda was a decisive factor in the electoral victory of the Peoples’ Partnership on May 24th 

 

And Whereas On the 18th September, 2010 at a meeting with the new Minister of Labour Comrade Errol K. McLeod (who is also Chairman of the MSJ) held at the CLR James Auditorium, Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies, the Labour Leaders presented a list of priorities from the Workers’ Agenda and the Minister re-iterated the government’s commitment to the WORKERS’ AGENDA.

 

And Whereas The labour movement in maintaining its vigilant role has convened this second National Conference of Shop Stewards and Branch Officers to provide an update and agree on the way forward in advancing and achieving the WORKERS’ AGENDA.

 

Be it Resolved That this COSSABO endorses the critical steps taken thus far in the pursuit of the advancement of the Workers’ Agenda

 

And Be it Further Resolved That we urgently work towards strengthening the Labour Movement through the collaboration and joint action of these 19 Trade Unions and, in particular, the:-

    1. Organization of Joint Education Sessions
    2. Organization of Joint workplace activities
    3. Coordination of Joint workplace visits

 

And Be it Further Resolved That we continue to work towards strengthening a labour-based political vehicle in order to guarantee the advancement and protection of the working class in Trinidad and Tobago
