PAN TRINBAGO SOUTH CENTRAL ELECTIONS HELD by Michael "Bro. Scobie" Joseph

Please allow me space in your well established editorial column to correct a misleading statement made in
one of the Dailies, re: “Pan Trinbago in disarray again”

The statement went on to state that regional elections, called for last Wednesday, failed to take place due to lack of quorums and decisions taken by the central executive against candidates vying for positions.

Pan Trinbago consists of four regions spread across Trinidad and Tobago and they are, the South/Central region, the Eastern region, the Northern region and the Tobago region which, together with a central executive, govern the Steelpan fraternity.

While I may not be privy to what may have transpired in the Northern, Eastern and Tobago regions, I can assure the public of Trinbago that democracy in the Steelpan fraternity is very much alive and fully functional in the South/Central region of Pan Trinbago.

Through the outgoing chairman Mr. Elton Bain, who indicated months ago, that due to personal matters, he would not be seeking reelection to the executive – the elections were held when constitutionally due, on Wednesday, 28th November 2012, at the OWTU Paramount building in San Fernando.

The post of Chairman was contested by Milton ‘Wire’ Austin of N L C B Fonclaire and Michael L Joseph ‘Bro. Scobie’ of Southern Marines Steelband Foundation, and the elections were held under the rules and laws that govern Pan Trinbago in a very cordial and civil atmosphere. Special thanks to Mr. Bain and officials present.

The new executive elected to manage the region over the next three years are: Chairman Michael L Joseph; Vice Chairman David Balbosa; Secretary Marie Diane Dupre; Assistant Secretary Brian Robertson; Treasurer Philip Barker; Trustees Ernleigh M Roach and Sean Ramsey.

We of the South/Central region, look forward to working with the entire Steelpan fraternity to advance the cause of all Panists throughout the world, in order to ensure that Pan Trinbago remains the World Governing Body for the Steelpan Instrument.

Yours in Pan

Michael L Joseph
Chairman Elect
Pan Trinbago
South/Central Region.
