The National Union of Domestic Employees (NUDE) issued the following media statement

The National Union of Domestic Employees (NUDE) and the Caribbean Domestic Workers Network (CDWN) celebrates the late Clotil Walcott on “CLOTIL WALCOTT DAY” 7th September, 2013.

We are celebrating the life of Clotil Walcott, our heroine and highlight the work she began, that we continue, to seek a better life for domestic workers and other low income workers who are predominantly women. We are also using this platform to call on Government to ratify ILO Convention 189.

The Honourable Errol Mc Leod, Minister of Labour, Small and Micro Enterprise Development has been invited to give a feature address. As Minister of Labour and as one who knew Clotil Walcott in his former capacity as a trade union leader, we truly believe that his words will speak to the hard work, fair-mindedness and social justice which defines Clotil’s legacy.

This event will take place on 7th September, 2013 at the Eastern Credit Union Banquet Hall, Sorzano Street, Arima. The official ceremony is carded to begin at 4.30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7.00 p.m

This celebration will also be commemorated simultaneously with other activities by: -

Jamaica Household Workers Union, Jamaica
Red Thread, Guyana
Caribbean Association for Feminist Research and Action, St Lucia
Antigua Trades and labour Union, Antigua
Barbados Workers Union, Barbados
