On November 11th 2013, Nirvan Maharaj, President of the All Trinidad General Workers Union (ATGWU) issued a detailed public statement analyzing the so-called Caroni Green initiative.

The statement reveals the vicious games the government is playing with the ex-Caroni workers who are supposed to have received two acre plots as part of the severance package, all in effort to serve the interests of the private sector.
The president pointed out that the implementation of the Caroni green initiative  is "fraught with difficulties and leaves a lot to be desired"; "that in its present form it is working to the total detriment of the Ex-Caroni worker". He also charged that the government is propagating "deliberate misinformation and blatant untruths" as it relates the Caroni Two Acre plots and the Ex-Caroni Workers position within the Green Initiative. The full statement can be accessed here
